| Both a pragmatist and a romantic at once, Tyki Mikk has long been aware of contrasting impulses in his motivations. Emotional dilemmas aside, Tyki has always tried to be a clever man, and clever men know when to hitch their wagons to a rising star. His parents were closely associated to the new don Monacello's family, and he himself was instrumental in the changing of the old guard to the new. As such, he has been amply rewarded with caporegime status—not just due to his loyalty, but also to his skills as a soldier, a tactician, and a right-hand man.
Any further promotion and he would no doubt get bored. He is satisfied with his place, for it affords him just the right amount of blood-letting along with the usual restrictions that come with a title indicative of power.
There was a time perhaps when it seemed as though Tyki might side with the other team; the impressive symbols of history, the legitimizing markers of status, the beauty of an old house, an old name—all worked upon his better senses. But there was some personal trouble, and for reasons not entirely well-known, even to those closest to him, Tyki Mikk switched sides. He emerged a staunch supporter and close ally of the new don Monacello, a young and ruthless caporegime for a radical new powerhouse.
Inspired and cruel, both a humanist and a little mad, Tyki Mikk has built up a careful network of personal allies.
One of them, the young Rabi Bookman, is his personal project, and perhaps his favorite: a boy taken from his rightful family and raised by Tyki himself when Tyki was the tender age of sixteen, and Rabi only nine. A vital piece of advice from a mentor early in Tyki's life taught him that influences must be cemented before a child turns ten; choosing a child from a rival family was merely a moment of perspicacity and stubbornness particular to Tyki's own brand of delineating his personal space. He took young Rabi from the streets, recognizing the potential in him, and raised him as a cool, efficient weapon. First he broke him; then he rebuilt him.
Neither speaks of those days, when a post-adolescent Tyki Mikk cut his eyeteeth on true ownership. It was a year-long project to create the perfect companion, ally, and knowledge-base, loyal solely to Tyki alone. Now, they are on relatively friendly terms, and Tyki is rarely seen without the contabile Rabi by his side.
Tyki has one sibling, an older brother, who taught him how to be a card shark.
They are currently not on speaking terms.
